Welcome to the East Van Seed Library!

This spring 2014 we will be starting our first year of organizing for the seed library. Most of our work before then will be fundraising, buying bulk seeds & envelopes, collecting donations, and dividing up the seeds for individual use.  We are hoping to have our “easy to save seed selection” available by the end of March. Our “Difficult to save seed selection” will not be available until January 2015. Check out the Seeds page for what we have this year!

Are You Ready for 2015?!?!!

The East Van Seed Library and the few of us currently working on starting this project have been given a small neighborhood grant which will keep this project running into next year. With the eventual demise of our temporary fundraising outpost & space (38 Blood Alley) the project and distribution will be operating solely out of EAST VAN houses, neighborhoods & gardens. With the grant we will be able to buy more seeds & plants to round out our list for this year, have stickers and information printed for our seed envelopes, get business cards & information packets made, and some materials to process and save seeds for the project.  Check back for more updates throughout the summer and information on where we will be distributing seeds and collecting donations! Car Free Day on Commercial Drive (super corporatized & consumer oriented) will be our first outdoor public event where we will have free food and information and seeds if we have any left from this years order. Look for our table! We will also be fundraising for next years “Difficult to save” seeds selection.

Anyone interested in helping out with the project or growing and saving seeds for free, don’t hesitate to email the EastVanSeedLibrary@hotmail.com If you would like some seeds please name the varieties and we can meet up somewhere in East Van. We still have seeds left to distribute, check the Seeds page for more information……

Seeds! April @ 38 Blood Alley

Come by 38 Blood Alley throughout April and check out the seed library/apothecary! We’ve had a show and a dinner over the weekend & fund-raised enough for 1/2 of our wishlist of seeds so far, and bought some interesting seeds from Nelson, BC from a retiring seed saver! They will be available for free at the space any time its open for events all April, located in the wooden drawer marked EAST VAN SEED LIBRARY & APOTHECARY . Leave your email address and the type of seed you “borrowed” on the dangling sheet and we will send an email out to everyone in the late fall with a location where any saved seeds can be dropped off for sorting & distribution in January 2015, the start of our next growing year at EVSL. Any online donations through this site will go to getting the rest of our seed wishlist , which can be viewed in the seeds section, and distribution supplies. Or you can donate, in person, to any collective member at 38 Blood Alley in an envelope marked Seed Library Donation.  Thanks to everyone who came out for the fundraisers and who helped organize &  with cleanup!
